David Wise wins halfpipe crown at U.S. Freestyle Championships
STRATTON MOUNTAIN, Vt. and#8212; David Wise of Reno earned his third title in four years with a win Saturday in the Sprint U.S. Freestyle Championships men’s halfpipe contest at Stratton Mountain, Vt.
Billy Mann of Truckee placed fifth in the event as Marshall Lacroix of Bondville, Vt., and Aaron Blunck of Crested Butte, Colo., rounded out the podium in second and third, respectively.
In the women’s competition, Devin Logan of West Dover, Vt., sailed above the competition to take her first U.S. title. Logan was joined on the podium by Dara Howell of Canada in second and Maddie Bowman of South Lake Tahoe in third.
With back-to-back podium finishes in the previous weekend’s halfpipe World Cup doubleheader in France, both Wise and Logan were brimming with confidence and full of momentum entering Saturday’s competition.
Standing with Wise on the podium was Marshall Lacroix of Bondville, Vt.,who came in second and Aaron Blunck of Crested Butte, Colo., who finished third.
Halfpipe skiing is one of five events being considering for possible inclusion in the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

NHL makes lasting memories at Lake Tahoe, donates special gift
STATELINE, Nev. — The National Hockey League is leaving behind many memories from its time at Lake Tahoe, including a special gift that could be used for future games, just probably not future NHL events.
