The third tournament of the Truckee-Tahoe Junior Golf Tour featured some hotly contested competition at the Resort at Squaw Creek Golf Course last Tuesday, July 17.

The tournament stop saw two players in their respective age groups, Quinn Earley (12-13) and Isaac Mozen (10-11), win a third straight event. Patrick Volkman has two first-place finishes and a second in the 8-9-year-old division.

The margin of victory has been reduced each event for these players, as many of them continue to practice and improve as they compete for awards at each event and for points in the season-long TTJGT Junior Cup race. Juniors do not have to play in every event, so aspiring competitive junior golfers are still eligible for the remaining two events.

Ellie Stimmerling of Chamonix, visiting for the summer playing out of Tahoe Donner, took first place in the girls’ 12-14 division with a 52. Montana Murphy placed first in the 10-11 girls’ group with a fine 79.

Kenzie McCormick placed first in the girls’ 9 and under age group and was followed closely by Haley McCormick at 70 and Carly Davis with a 71. Whitney Wingard was not far behind with a 79.

The boys’ 8-9 age group continues to be very competitive. Patrick Volkman won his second event with a well-played 46 and was followed by Ethan Flynn’s 52. Three players tied for third, with Tyler Neadeau winning the scorecard playoff over Gabe Smith and Jake Tedsen to earn the third-place medal.

Isaac Mozen won with a 58 and was followed very closely by Marcus Bellon and Dylan Heins with scores of 61. Airon Yarbrough closed the gap on Quinn Earley to finish in second place, five strokes behind Quinn’s well-played 42.

Airon shot a solid 47 of his own. Logan Lowe continued to impress by carding an 80 for 18 holes on the challenging Resort at Squaw Creek course. Pauly Buschman beat Zach Kirby by seven strokes to place first in the 17-18 age division.

A complete scoreboard for Squaw Creek and other TTJGT events is posted on the website, http://www.ttjgt.com. The points race standings for each division is posted as well.

The next event is Monday, July 30 at Ponderosa Golf Club in Truckee. Entry deadline is Saturday, July 28 at 5 p.m. See website for more details.
