End of the line for Truckee’s baseball and softball teams

Staff Reports

After strong respective showings at zones, the Tahoe-Truckee High School baseball and softball teams were eliminated early in the state championship last week.

The baseball team -which faced an uphill battle following the suspension of six players and the dismissal of its head coach (see A section for story) – dropped the first game 2-1 to defending champs Virgin Valley, despite a three-hitter pitched by senior Taylor Greene.

Its spirits dimmed, Truckee advanced to the losers’ bracket against Incline, falling 4-1.

Gabe Valle and Carson Specht shared pitching duties in the loss.

Junior varsity coach Jared Westberg coached the state tournament.

The softball team lost to Pahrump Valley in Yerington last Thursday, knocking it out of the running.

Last year, Truckee advanced past Fernley in the first round, but was eliminated by Boulder City from Southern Nevada.

Correction

Heather Shove pitched the win against Fernley in the Div. 1 championship game two weeks ago.
