This week, a group of young Truckee skiers travel to Idaho to compete in the Junior Olympics as part of the Far West skiing organization.

Past and present members of the Tahoe-Truckee High School nordic team travel to McCall, Idaho, this week to compete for top honors in the Junior Olympics.

Spencer Archer, Kristy Davis, Jenny Rassuchine, Tom Rassuchine, Erica Rust, Erin Rust, Jesse Steverman and Louis VanBlarigan are slated to participate in the weeklong event which got under way Wednesday morning, but results were unavailable at press time.

The Junior Olympics feature individual and team relay competitions. The individual races are in the 1 K, 5 K, 10 K and 15 K categories.

The Junior Olympics feature athletes 13-20 from across the United States.

Junior coach Glenn Jobe said the athletes were selected by their performances in qualifying races over the past two months.

“We are really seeing that consistent training and coaching is paying off for these juniors,” said Jobe.

The Truckee Far West team will face powerhouse teams from Idaho, New England, Minnesota and Alaska.
