Football: Truckee JV defeats Hawthorne Varsity

The Truckee High School junior varsity football team upset the Hawthorne High School varsity team 33-6 on Friday night.

In the first quarter, the Wolverines struck first on a 15-yard Micah Carbajal touchdown run. The extra point was good.

For the next score, Robert Jones found Carbajal on a 23-yard pass. With the extra point, Truckee led by 14.

In the second quarter, Carbajal added another touchdown to the board after an 8-yard run. The extra point was good.

In the third quarter, Mike Lopez scored off a 65-yard interception. The extra point was no good, but the Wolverines still led by a commanding 27 points.

Robert Jones completed a 28-yard pass to John Hooper for the touchdown and gave Truckee their final score of 33. Hawthorne eventually found its way into the end zone on a 17-yard run.

Quarterback Robert Jones threw five for five for 73 yards and two touchdowns.

“We hit Hawthorne, and I don’t think they’ve been hit that hard all year,” said head coach Dow Higginbotham. “We had seven to 11 defenders on each tackle.”

“Guys were going down-field to block,” he said. “It was what football should be.”
