Northern Nevada Top Ten Student-Athletes of the Year

North Tahoe senior Tara Gallant was honored by the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) as one of its Top Ten Student Athletes of the Year.
Gallant, who competes in cross-country, Nordic skiing and track and field, has earned 12 varsity letters in her four years at North Tahoe while earning the distinction as as AP scholar.
Also honored as one of the top 10 student-athletes was Incline senior Jack Clouthier, who competes in football, basketball and baseball for the Highlanders.
According to the NIAA, the awards are given not only to the top high school senior athletes in the state, but also the student-athletes who exemplify total school and community involvement.
After being nominated by their respective schools, athletes were considered based on their participated in multiple sports, other school groups and/or student government activities and community service projects while maintaining a high GPA.
Ten athletes were then selected from the Northern region of the state and 10 from the Southern region. Although located in California, North Tahoe has been a longtime member of the NIAA.
A banquet was held at the Peppermill Resort Casino in Reno on Wednesday.
