The Truckee girls tennis team narrowly missed pulling off a victory and earning a regional final berth Thursday.

In a hard-fought battle at the Tahoe Donner Tennis Center, Fallon slipped past Truckee, 36-33, in a double tiebreaker in the semifinal round of the Northern Division I-A Regional Team Championships.

The clubs were knotted in a 9-9 tie after the first round of matches. They then split the next six matches in the tiebreaker. Fallon, however, won more games and was declared the winner and advanced to the team finals. The Greenwave went on to lose 16-2 to South Tahoe in the finals.

“The girls played great,” said Truckee coach Jessica Putz. “It was a nail-biter.”

In the tiebreaker round, Truckee’s No. 2 singles player, Aimee LaGrandeur, defeated Fallon’s Haley Lindsay 7-4, while Truckee’s No. 3, Anna Keith, defeated Sarah Inglis 7-5. Truckee’s No. 1 doubles team of Diana Rosas and Sofie Maciel defeated Josie Bekiares and Lindsay 8-6. But it wasn’t quite enough to lift the Wolverines to victory.

The Truckee girls and boys will host the Northern Division I-A Regional Individual Championships at the Tahoe Donner Tennis Center on Friday and Saturday.

Play begins Friday with rounds of 16 — girls doubles at 9 a.m., girls singles at 10:30 a.m., boys doubles at noon and boys singles at 1:30 p.m. The quarterfinal rounds begin at 2 p.m. Play resumes Saturday with girls and boys singles and doubles semifinals at 9 a.m. The finals and consolation start at noon.
