Girls’ golfers travel to Yerington Invitational
Coach Mike Merriman and six members of the TTHS varsity golf team traveled to Yerington Friday to put all of their preseason work to the test. With only two veteran players on the Wolverine varsity team and many members who are new to the sport of golf, the Yerington invitational was a challenging one.
With tough teams like Lowry and North Tahoe on the course, the young Truckee team finished seventh out of eight teams, with Marissa Allen and Tiffany Schegg tieing for the team’s lowest score with 126 strokes apiece.
“We still have some high scores that we are working on bringing down,” said Merriman, “though we were encouraged by the competition to work a little bit harder.”
Lowry finished the day on top, just ahead of second place North Tahoe.
The TTHS team returned to practicing at Northstar, Coyote Moon and Lahontan this week, in an effort to improve their overall game before tomorrow’s match-up at Dayton at 10 a.m.
“We just need to translate our range skills onto the golf course and that will take some time,” added Merriman.
