Girls’ tennis slams South Tahoe

WWWHOOOMPF! The sound of destruction by racket left South Tahoe’s varsity girls’ tennis team reeling on Tuesday afternoon at Tahoe Donner Tennis Club, after the Wolverines walked away with a 15 to 7.5 final win.

Leading the TNT charge on the court was number one singles Lindsay Borghello, who won her three matches 6-2, 6-0, and 6-1. Number two singles player Jackie Schwartz went 1-3 on the day and third-ranked singles player Shelly Ratto came back after a tough first round (1-6) loss to win 7-6, 6-1.

Truckee doubles teams of Kimmy Fasani and Jamie Bond; Kate Rose and Christine Miller; and Kaci LaPoint and Kara LaPoint swept their opponents in the first two rounds, garnering enough points to propel the Wolverines to victory.

In high school play, each singles match won scores one point and each victorious doubles match awards 1 1/2 points to the winning team.

Although the Wolverines lost their last three doubles matches in round three, their early round play secured the team’s first win of the 2001 season.

The next match for the TNT ladies will be at Tahoe Donner against Fallon today at 3:30 p.m.
