Golfers at home Friday

After a strong second-place finish at Lowry in a non-League match to close out April, the Wolverine golfers lost some ground at Edgewood to finish fifth among a pack of 12 teams.

“The results speak for themselves. Lowry, Whittell, Manogue and Spring Creek just outplayed us,” said Coach Jeff Froelich after his team’s disappointing finish.

The small Truckee team was unable to garner any scores under 80 strokes, and therefore fell behind strong leaders from the host team Whittell and the Spartans. Mark Lundbeck posted the lowest score for TTHS with an even 80, followed closely by junior Marc Gianetto who shot an 82.

“I am very pleased with Gianetto’s 82 – he’s coming on!” remarked Froelich. Following the two leaders were Wolverine team members Jason Waters with an 84, Dave Brooks with an 88 for the day and Ryan Stock with the last team score of 89. Jarrett Bower topped the team totals with a 92 that did not factor into the final score for Truckee.

A combined total of 423 points put Truckee behind the fourth-place Spartans by just three strokes and back from third place by only four.

Coach Froelich and his team will return home this week to Lahontan on Friday, May 11 in the last match-up before the state tournament at Pahrump on May 17.

“We are hoping for our best performance yet at Pahrump,” said Froelich.
