Golfers battle to raise team score

New snow moved the Wolverine varsity golf team from their scheduled game at Spring Creek to Winnemucca’s golf course on Friday, April 13.

Despite the addition of two new golfers to the team – junior Marc Gianetto and sophomore Doug Coombs who replaced Kyle Anderson and Ryan Stock – the TTHS team once again failed to pull together five solid individual scores to finish strongly as a team.

As in the last two invitationals, three Wolverine golfers led the way with low scores, yet their efforts were overshadowed by a high overall team stroke total. Mark Lundbeck topped the Truckee list with a 78 for the day, two strokes ahead of teammate Jason Waters. Jarrett Bower also played a strong match with 85 strokes, while Jason Brooks finished with a total of 90 after 18 holes.

The last team score to factor into the Wolverines total was a 90 delivered by newcomer Gianetto. Coombs shot a 95 in his first day out with the varsity team. As of last Friday, Truckee’s golfers sat in fourth place in division standings behind Manogue, Lowry, and Yerington respectively.

The team will host its first invitational next Friday, April 27, taking on Yerington, Spring Creek, Lowry, Fernley and ROP.
