Golfers third in Yerington

After two league invitationals, the Truckee varsity golf team sits in third place in division standings and is looking in one direction: toward the top.

A mid-pack finish at Dayton in the first regular season open set the Wolverines back a few strokes from their season goal; however, a strong third place finish on Friday put the team back on course with a long season ahead.

“I was really pleased with the improvement over last week. We came a long way and the kids have been working really hard,” said Coach Jeff Froelich.

Truckee landed in third place overall out of 13 teams at Yerington on Friday, with season-high performances by numerous players.

Jarrett Bower and Mark Lundbeck both shot a 78 for the day, moving the Wolverines into solid position for a low team score.

David Brooks finished his 18 holes just shy of the TNT leaders with an impressive 79, one stroke ahead of senior Jason Waters who recorded an 80 stroke effort. Sophomore Kyle Anderson played solidly with an 83 and teammate Ryan Stock shot a 92.

The Wolverines closed the day only one point behind second place Lowry with a 398 team total.

The day’s winner, Manogue, is currently in first place in the divisional standings and will be the team to beat tomorrow at Manogue (Rosewood) as Truckee tees up at 11 a.m.
