Ian Case wins season-opening Nordic race

A total of 70 skiers took part in the season-opening Nordic races at Royal Gorge on Sunday.

Ian Case captured first place out of 58 skiers in the 10-kilometer race with a time of 30 minutes, 11 seconds, while Beth Reid placed first among women and fourth overall in 31 minutes, 30 seconds.

Elias Bucher placed second overall in 31.09, Lutz Preussler was third in 31.24 and August Brautigam was fifth in 31.56.

Austin Meng ( sixth, 32.09), Joanne Reid (seventh, 32.15), Trygue Ellingsen (eighth, 32.47), Jonathan Pluvinet (ninth, 33.38), and Rick Reynolds (10th, 33.43) rounded out the top 10.

In the 5K race, Joe Piercy took first in a field of 12 skiers in 24 minutes, 22 seconds, while Raylene Chew finished runner-up in 24.25.
