Incline at North Tahoe volleyball: Highlanders pay back Lakers

The Incline volleyball team defeated rival North Tahoe in four hard-fought sets on Dollar Hill Tuesday night.

After falling in straight sets to the Lakers in the teams’ first meeting, the Highlanders came out on top in the second match, 25-19, 25-19, 22-25, 25-19.

Playing in front of a large crowd from both schools, senior Kira Porter and the Highlanders’ tall front line controlled play at the net, which turned out to be the difference in the match.

North Tahoe senior Jordan Briggs led the hosts with eight kills, three service aces and 16 digs. Rikki Partain added six kills, three aces and 20 digs, Tilley Gibeaut had two blocks and 15 digs, and Sherene Clegg had two blocks. Jamie Dodge and Helana Kearns finished with 13 digs apiece, and Dodge had 17 assists.

Incline stats were not available.

Both Incline (8-2) and North Tahoe (7-3) have secured berths in the Northern Division III regional championship, which will be held at first-place Yerington (10-1) on Nov. 7. Incline is the only team in the league to defeat Yerington.

The top two teams from regionals advance to state, which is scheduled for Nov. 13-14 in Henderson.
