Incline basketball: Girls win opener at South Tahoe

The Highlanders are scheduled to compete in the High Sierra Winter Challenge in Reno and Sparks this Thursday through Saturday. Incline opens against Spring Creek at Galena High on Thursday at 6 p.m. Incline will host Hug in its first home game Monday, Dec. 7, at 6:30 p.m.
The Incline girls basketball team earned a quality nonleague win, 35-22, in its season opener at Division I-A South Tahoe on Tuesday.
The Highlanders led for much of the contest, building a 9-6 advantage after one quarter and leading 24-13 at the half and 27-17 after three quarters.
Senior forward Kira Porter was named Incline’s Player of the Game after posting a game-high 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting. She also finished with a game-high 15 rebounds and eight blocks, and was 2-for-2 at the free-throw line.
Junior Christine Schwartz contributed nine points, while Haeden Suter, Briana Barraza, Taylor Redfern, Harmony Bates and Emily White scored two points apiece. Redfern added four steals, Barraza had three assists, Bates three rebounds and Anne Schrage two blocks.
Senior Bailey Barcellos led the Vikings with eight points, three assists and four steals, while junior Claudia Janese had nine rebounds.
