Incline golf: Highlanders third without top players

The Highlanders managed a top-three finish without their top two golfers in a Northern Division III match at Washoe County Golf Club last Thursday.

Playing in cold, windy conditions, Incline placed third as a team with a score of 559. Whittell pulled out the team win with a score of 494, while Yerington was second at 551 and Sierra Lutheran fourth at 567.

North Tahoe, Sage Ridge and Hawthorne did not have enough golfers to record team scores.

Senior Kelsey Philpott led the shorthanded Incline squad, carding a 105, and was followed by teammates Peter Larson (108), Cooper Lyons (113), Brandon Swick (115) and Matthew Poalillo (118). Bryan Golombik and defending state champion Mitchell Cornell did not compete.

Yerington’s Griffin Cooper earned tournament medalist honors with a 79. North Tahoe’s Murphy Scott placed second with an 83 and Lakers teammate Connor Hipsley was third with a 91.

Incline is scheduled to compete at Eagle Valley Golf Course in Carson City on Thursday, April 28.
