Incline golf: Schwartz, Cohn to lead team into state

The Incline girls golf team fared well in the final Division III tournament of the regular season last week.

Although the tournament was rained out after nine holes, Incline golfers posted the two lowest scores, with Christine Schwartz carding a 46 and Kennedy Cohn coming in at 47. Kami Niles of Sierra Lutheran was third with a 50.

Schwartz will lead the Highlanders into the Division III state championship tournament on Oct. 12-13 with a 91 scoring average. Cohn will enter with a 96 average, Tori Findlen with a 100 average, Haley Carlson with a 117 average, Bridgette Johnson with a 132 average and Kristina Goetz with a 134 average.

The two-day tournament will be contested at the par-72 White Pine County Golf Course in Ely, Nev.

Incline and Sierra Lutheran are the favorites among state-bound teams from the west, while Wells and Battle Mountain are the favorites from the east.

“We will be prepared and ready to play,” Incline coach Joe Humasti said. “I am very proud of the effort this year’s team has showed in their desire to improve their competitive play.”
