Incline prep roundup: Highlanders volleyball sweeps Silver Stage
Chandler Cohn posted seven kills and seven digs, leading the Incline volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Silver Stage in 2A Northern League action Friday.
The Lady Highlanders more than doubled the Nighthawks in each set, winning in scores of 25-12, 25-12 and 25-11.
Incline’s Madeleine Saxe spun over six aces and dished out 20 set assists, both team-highs. Ellyse Kirkland added six kills and Serena Singh had seven digs.
On Saturday, the Highlanders couldn’t keep the pace in a 3-0 loss (25-18, 25-21, 25-7) to Yerington at Incline High School.
Madison Cronk and Chandler Cohn had six and five kills, respectively, to lead Incline. Singh led the back row with 12 digs, followed by Cohn will 11.
Incline (7-7, 7-6) will play its regular season finale at rival North Tahoe at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Boys soccer: Incline ousted by Sparks, Truckee
The Incline boys soccer team fell just short of topping league-leading Sparks, falling 2-1 in a 3A Northern showdown Tuesday at Sparks High School.
The Highlanders trailed 1-0 in the second half before Incline’s Oscar Herrera leveled the count at 1-1 in the 53rd minute.
The Railroaders (18-2-1, 11-2-1), however, responded with the go-ahead goal late in the second half to fend off the Highlanders.
On Friday, the Highlanders couldn’t keep up with Truckee in a 6-1 league loss at Truckee High School.
Chris Contreras scored Incline’s lone goal, netting a shot in the 17th minute to give the Highlanders a brief 1-0 lead.
Truckee, however, countered in the 35th minute to level the count at 1-1 at halftime. In the second half, it was all Wolverines, who scored five unanswered goals.
Incline (11-4-4, 7-3-4) hosts Fallon at 4 p.m. Thursday to close out the regular season.
Girls soccer: Incline tops Sparks, falls to Truckee
Sami Giangreco scored a goal and had an assist, steering the Incline girls soccer team to a 4-1 3A Northern League victory Tuesday at Sparks High School.
Madio Waller set the tone for the Highlanders, scoring on an assist from Belle Johnson to give Incline a 1-0 lead.
It was a sign of things to come from Johnson, who dished out a team-high three assists.
Camila Correa and Brenna Soli added goals for the Highlanders.
On Friday, the Lady Highlanders were shut out by Truckee, 5-0, in league action at Truckee High School.
Incline (4-8-2) hosts Fallon at 2 p.m. Thursday to wrap up the regular season.
