Incline soccer: Boys, girls rout league opponents

The Incline soccer teams are scheduled to play league games at West Wendover and White Pine this Friday and Saturday. The Highlanders return home to host Whittell on Tuesday, Sept. 22, girls at 5 p.m. and boys at 7.

The Incline soccer teams swept their Division III openers this past weekend, with the boys defeating Battle Mountain 6-0 at home and the girls routing Battle Mountain and Pershing County by identical scores of 8-0.

Incline’s boys led 1-0 at the half before pouring it on with five second-half goals.

Freshman Michael Callejas led the Highlanders with two goals and an assist. Edgar Fragosa, Alexis Ramos, Danny Guerrero and Devyn Sutton scored one goal apiece, while Cesar Jauregui and Guerrero each delivered an assist.

Incline goalie Chuy Cordova preserved the shutout.

The Highlanders then dropped a nonleague contest to visiting Truckee, 1-0, on Monday. Truckee’s Jose Gonzalez scored the lone goal in the 11th minute of the contest.

Incline girls also dropped their nonleague game against visiting Truckee, 5-0.

Truckee junior Zareli Villa scored the first and last goals of the game — assisted by Olivia Vigano and Heather Pendleton in the ninth and 74th minutes, respectively.

In between, Marley Simpson scored in the 28th minute on an assist from Sophie Curtis, Incline scored an own-goal in the 31st minute, and Amber Simonpietri scored in the 68th minute on an assist from Noelle Seppi.

Stats from Incline’s two league wins were not available.
