The Incline volleyball team split a pair of Division III matches in the past week, as the Highlanders swept past host North Tahoe in three sets on Thursday before falling in straight sets against perennial power Yerington on Saturday.

Incline wrapped up its season at Silver Stage on Wednesday (the match ended too late for publication). The Highlanders, which entered Wednesday’s match with a 5-6 record in Northern Division III play, came up one spot short of a postseason berth.

Yerington, at 14-0, will enter the regional tournament as the top seed, while Pershing County (12-2) clinched the No. 2 and White Pine (8-5) and Battle Mountain (8-5) are still battling for the No. 3 seed.

Against North Tahoe (3-11) last week, Incline won with relative ease, 25-18, 25-13, 25-17, on the rival Lakers’ home court.

Sophomore Kira Porter dealt 14 kills, five blocks, four service aces and six digs to lead the Highlanders. Junior setter Megan Golden finished with 25 assists, while Ronni Flores had 11 kills, Sophie Shorin had five digs, Michelle Tokunaga had two aces, and Tina Cruz had three digs and two assists.

The red-hit Lions from Yerington were a whole different animal. Winners of their last 15 matches, the Lions (23-8 overall) defeated the Highlanders 25-10, 25-17, 25-20, despite some quality play by the hosts.

Porter again had a strong match for Incline, as she tallied a team-high eight kills and four blocks. Golden had 15 assists, Flores and Taylor Binney had three kills apiece, and Cruz had two kills. Kassidy Lommori led Yerington with 11 kills and 13 digs.
