Jamie McJunkin, Rebecca Rusch win Tahoe Trail 100K

Jamie McJunkin of the Truckee-based Marc Pro-Strava cycling team and endurance mountain bike pro Rebecca Rusch raced to respective wins in the Tahoe Trail 100K at Northstar California Resort on Sunday.
McJunkin crossed the line in 4 hours, 9 minutes, 46 seconds to take the overall win ahead of runner-up Peter Smith, who posted a time of 4:14:02. Jason Siegle was third overall in 4:19:43, followed by Trent Ford (4:20:18) and Bryce Phinney (4:20:46).
A three-time winner of Colorado’s Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike Race, Rusch and#8212; aka, the Queen of Pain and#8212; dominated the women’s field while finishing 12th overall in 4:36:46.
Heather Lyman of South Lake Tahoe was second among woman in 5:11:00, and Julie Young of Truckee rounded out the top three in 5:13:29. Genevieve Evans of Carnelian Bay was fourth in 5:17:51.
Truckee’s Conrad Snover of the Marc Pro-Strava team won the singlespeed division and was eighth overall in 4:28:59.
The race, which also offered a 50-kilometer alternative, was one of six stops in the Leadville Qualifying Series. Each race provides 70 to 100 qualifying positions to the revered Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike Race in Colorado.
The Tahoe Trail 100 featured two 50-kilometer loops (about 60 miles total), on which athletes had to meet three cutoff times and tackle seven climbs. A total of 239 men and 21 women finished the race, while 19 completed the 50K.
Among the top men, Greg Hillson was sixth in 4:21:56 and was followed by Davis Bentley (4:24:36), Tim Knudsen (4:31:39), Gordo Byrn (4:32:25) and Nathan Brown (4:33:14).
Christine Jeffrey was the fifth woman in 5:20:12 and was trailed by Karen Edwards (5:40:37), Cyntha Fowler (5:43:43), Lauren Burns (5:55:56), Susan Bertelsen (6:07:31) and Nancy Glenn (6:13:01).
Daniel Menally took the overall win in the 50K in a time of 2:22:41, while Kimberly Vandersyde was the top woman in 2:59:53.
Other races in the Leadville Qualifying Series include the Alpine Odyssey 100K (Crested Butte, Colo.), Austin Rattler 100K (Texas), Barn Burner 104 (Flagstaff, Ariz.), Wilmington Whiteface 100 (Adirondack Mountains, N.Y.) and the Silver Rush 50 (Leadville, Colo.).
