Junior Varsity baseball steps up, despite loss

The boys’ junior varsity baseball team suffered the same fate as the varsity losing 0-10 in the sixth inning to Reno High School on April 29.

“We made a lot of errors but we still played well,” said head coach Chuck Smith. “They just got an early lead and kept chipping away.”

“We can win the league games. It’s just the non league games we have trouble with.”

Overall the Wolverines have a league record of 9-2-1. Their only losses came to Bishop Manogue.

On April 26, Truckee beat Lowry 10-5 in the first game and 12-9 in the second game.

In the first game sophomore Kevin Embertson pitched six innings and gave up only three runs and four hits. Embertson had nine strikeouts.

In the second game sophomore Kyle Adams pitched five innings with seven strikeouts. Adams gave up on five runs and six hits. Adams played his first game on varsity April 29.

“We’re doing really well. Our team is hitting around a 3.02 average. But what I’m really proud of is our 172 stolen bases out of 180 attempts.”

With only three outdoor practices and no home games, the junior varsity is really stepping up to the plate when it counts. If the Wolverines win their next two games against North Tahoe on May 3 it will be coach Smiths’ second best season record ever.
