JV boys win against Lakers

It’s happened in each of the three years that John Halversen has coached the Tahoe-Truckee Wolverines junior varsity boys’ basketball team … they beat North Tahoe in the season’s final game.

Led by Erik Hansen, the JV team defeated the North Tahoe Lakers, 62-53, at Truckee’s gymnasium on Thursday night.

Hansen, promoted to the varsity team for the upcoming playoffs, scored 26 points in the game, controlling the offense at the forward position.

“Last year Hansen was our sixth, seventh or eighth man,” Halversen said. “He has improved so much. He’s going to be a very good ball player.”

Truckee stretched a 26-23 halftime lead to 11 points in the opening minutes of the second half.

The Lakers methodically fought back to within three points before the Wolverines just ran away with the game in the fourth quarter. Truckee outscored North Tahoe 21-8 in the quarter.

Hansen was the game’s leading scorer. T.J. Dwyer contributed six points for the Wolverines, Kevin Suter had eight points and Andre Echinique finished with seven points.

The win brought to an end a 4-6 season for the squad.
