JV hoops nip Lions in final seconds
Staff reportsThe Truckee High junior varsity basketball team won a nail-biter on Friday, finishing off the Yerington Lions in the final seconds.The Wolverines were behind 22-24 at the start of the third quarter when Yerington hit two three-point shots. Truckee then came back, knotting the score at 30 with only 1 minute 3 seconds left in the game. Yerington then called a time out. Truckee’s pressure defense allowed Kyle Rinella to steal the ball and converted it into a layup, giving Truckee the lead at 32-30. On the next possession, Truckee’s Cole Froelich was fouled and sent to the line. He was shooting a one-on-one, missing the first free throw. Cory Hoehn came down with rebound for Truckee and went up strong for two points, icing the game at 34-30 with only 16 seconds on the clock.Truckee’s JV boys are 11-2 overall, 6-0 in league. Friday they travel to Lowry, and than on to Spring Creek on Saturday.Truckee v.
