Lady golfers come in sixth at tournament

Friday the Truckee girls’ golf team came in sixth out of eight teams in a tournament played at the Tahoe City Golf course. The Wolverines had a difficult week dealing with the tragedies of Sept. 11, missing some practice last Tuesday.

“I wish we didn’t have school [on Wednesday],” said head coach Mike Merriman.

Playing in the number one grouping for the first time, junior Tiffany Schegg scored a 131 for the 18-hole tournament.

“The girls I was with were really good. My tee shots were pretty good but my short game was poor,” said Shegg, who shot a 124 at Dayton the week before.

Walking with the second grouping, senior Marisa Allen shot a 123. Allen found the same difficulties as Schegg, saying, “I drove and putted well, but I chipped bad. Overall it was a pretty good day.”

The team shot a collective 641, only 19 strokes behind the fifth place team, but 169 strokes off the first place team, Lowry HS.

The Wolverines play at Winnemucca Friday at 10 a.m.
