Laker soccer, volleyball return from rough tournaments
North Tahoe soccer coach Beto Alcaraz knew his Lakers were going heads up against some tough competition in the Del Campo Tournament this past Friday and Saturday.He was right, as his shorthanded Laker squad finished 0-4 and was outscored 13-1 in the Rocklin (Calif.) tournament, which featured a number of large California programs.The Lakers opened with a 2-1 loss to Rocklin, then followed with losses to Mission of San Francisco by a score of 5-0, Folsom, 3-0 and Atwater, 3-0.Alcaraz said the hot weather in the Sacramento Valley took its toll on North Tahoe players, and that he was forced to bring five junior varsity players to the tournament because of several injuries.The heat was probably our worst enemy. It was hot in Sacramento, Alcaraz said. But hopefully this helped get us ready for the start of league play.North Tahoe sophomore Zach Rickenback scored the Lakers only goal.The Lakers open Northern 3A league play at rival Truckee today (Tuesday). The boys play at 5 p.m. and the girls at 3 p.m.
The North Tahoe volleyball team lost four nonleague matches in a tournament in Carmichael (Calif.) this past weekend to open its season.North Tahoe head coach Tom LeFevers said the Lakers played St. Ignatius (Calif.) and Loretto (Calif.), but he wasnt sure the names of the other two schools.The Lakers host Incline today (Tuesday) at 4 p.m. and host Mineral County (Hawthorne) on Friday at 4 p.m. Times may change.
