Laker volleyball spikes Highlanders

Seth Lightcap/Sierra SunNorth Tahoe senior Kayla Baumgardner prepares for the kill against Incline in the Lakers' home opener victory Tuesday.

The North Tahoe volleyball team celebrated a convincing victory in its home opener Tuesday, dispatching the Incline Highlanders in three straight sets, 25-9, 25-22, 25-17.

The Lakers attack at the net was led by Kayla Baumgardner, who nearly jumped out of the gym attacking well-set balls for wicked kills. In the North Tahoe backcourt, Sydney Courcier smacked steady serves, including a first-set run where she served up 14 points.

Incline didn’t back down without a fight, however. The Highlanders nearly took the second set before faltering due to miscommunications.

North Tahoe head coach Tom LeFevers was thrilled with his team’s performance.

“The girls played great,” said LeFevers. “Our play reflected everything we had learned in the preseason, and it paid off.”

The Lakers host Mineral County on Friday at 4 p.m.
