The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association named a group of 16 athletes to compete at the 2014 FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships, including three racers from the Lake Tahoe area.

Lila Lapanja of Incline Village, who skied for Diamond Peak and Sugar Bowl, was named to the women’s team along with Squaw Valley skier Foreste Peterson, while 2013 Whittell High grad Ty Sprock of Stateline was named to the men’s squad.

“There is a lot of talent and drive with this young group of athletes and their NorAm results this season reflect the hard work they’ve put in to make this elite team,” said Patrick Riml, U.S. Ski Team alpine director. “The World Junior Championships provide a platform for these young athletes to measure that ability against the best young athletes in the world.”

The athletes will compete Feb. 26 through March 6 at Jasna Resort in Slovakia.
