Local cheer and dance squad earns bid to national competition
The local T-n-T Explosions All-Star cheer and dance squad has done it again, receiving a bid to The National All-Star Championship in Walt Disney World, Fla., for the second year in a row.
The team received a first place at the Sacramento State Regional competition on Nov. 13. The team nearly received a perfect score, an honor rarely given out by judges.
The team is working very hard to get ready for its next competition at Sparks High School (820 15th St. Sparks, NV) on Dec. 4. The team will be competing in Small Senior Level 2 Division and in Small Varsity Hip-Hop Division. This is the best opportunity for the community to come out and show their support for the team. The competition starts at 11 a.m., and the cost per spectator is $8.
This year’s squad is very committed. As the coach, I have changed the cheer routine several times to challenge their abilities. They have meet every challenge even after having bloody noises, hurt wrists, tears and lots of bruises. The girls have come to realize that this team takes a lot of hard work and dedication.
Competitive cheerleading is very demanding sport that takes lots of strength, patience and teamwork. If one girl is missing, the whole team is affected. The team relies on each other to be at practice to build stunts and perform together as one unit ” not as an individual. They can practice the same section of a routine for up to two hours to get it right.
The parents also deserve a huge thank you for being there for the girls, not only for transportation, but for hair and uniform changes and being a great cheering section in the stands. I thank you all. I couldn’t do it without your help and positive support.
The team will always be looking for local support on upcoming fund-raisers. Each team member will need to raise an estimated $1,000 to travel and compete at nationals in Florida. The team is already taking sign-ups on a waiting list for next year’s teams. There will be a senior and junior team in both cheer and hip-hop. You can sign-up at Sierra Nevada Dance at the Pioneer Center; the list is posted on the bulletin board. For more information, call 582-6994. – – – – –
