Local competitions pedal to Tahoe
Races for both mountain and road biking enthusiasts have started around the Tahoe area this past week.
For road races, the Reno Wheelmen club offerers races for advanced, intermediate and beginner riders.
The advanced and intermediate rides usually consist of 24 miles while the beginer ride close to 19 miles.
Riders under the age of 18 and all women race for free. All other entries are $5 and $8. Tickets are cheaper at participating bike stores.
In Truckee tickets can be purchased before the race at Paco’s.

For mountain biking North Star at Tahoe has started its weekly Thursday night cross country series.
Each Thursday until August, races ranging from six to 14 miles will be held on the trails around North Star.
Each race is a part of a 10 race series. At the end of each series a winner in picked based on the best six finishes.
The races are broken down into age and ability. Each group will race a separate course.
All races begin at 6 p.m. sharp at the upper plaza of Northstar’s Village. Race categories are: men’s beginner, men’s sport, men’s expert, women’s beginner, women’s sport and women’s expert. The entry fee is $8 per racer with registration in the Village from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. the evening of the race.
