Tennis players both locally and from across California and Nevada convened to play in the Northstar Annual Open Tennis Tournament this past weekend.

On hand were players of all levels competing in singles, men’s doubles, women’s and mixed matches.

Among the highlights was a match by Northstar Tennis Pro Malcolm Ridenour, who came back 4-6, 2-5, to win in a three-set semifinal thriller.

Northstar tennis pros enjoyed a favorable weekend as well. Director Zeke Straw advanced to the finals of Mixed A Doubles and Men’s Doubles, Ridenour muscled his way to the finals of singles and Guillaume Tonelli flashed into the Open Single finals.

In other local accomplishments, Claire Perry and Carol Zwick won the women’s doubles championship, and Jani Tiilikainen ” Lakeridge pro and Reno resident ” dominated the field for the fifth straight year. Tiilikainen, who is ranked No. 1 in the nation, won two gold balls and received prize money, and multiple ski/golf vacation giveaways from Northstar-at-Tahoe and Northstar tennis.
