Lowry High School outplays Truckee boys

Lowry High School rolled into town Friday and soundly beat the Truckee boys 65-39.

The Wolverines trailed 11-8 after the first quarter, and at half time the score was 37-27. From there, the game got a bit ugly, as Lowry steadily added to the lead, outscoring Truckee in each of the four quarters.

Jamie Maehler scored 18 points while Paul Tierney and John Hooper each had eight points. Greg Shove and Kyle Steverman had two and Jeff Hansen one.

For Lowry, Matt Dennis was high-point man with 15 points, followed by Howard Ceballos with 12 points. Andrew Reed scored nine points and John Weber had eight.

Before the game, Truckee boys and girls players bid farewell to their fans, as the regular season ends on Saturday. Truckee parents gathered on the court to receive bouquets, along with some kind words, from their kids.

With the Wolverines’ post season hopes now completely gone, coach Keith Crawford will look to rebuild next season with a largely new crop of players. Truckee’s seniors, who played in their penultimate high school basketball game Friday, were Victor Diaz, Nick Cabral, Mike Hoopingarner, Jeff Hansen, Paul Tierney, Jamie Maehler, Kevin Embertson and Greg Shove.
