Many locals finish regional marathon

Sierra Sun staff reports

Annette Means posted the top time of any Truckee competitor in the California International Marathon in Sacramento on Dec. 5.

The marathon began near the Folsom Dam and finished at the capital in Sacramento. Competitors ran through five different communities over a distance of 26 miles, 385 yards. Beginning at 7 a.m., more than 5,000 people participated in the event. Many spectators lined the entire route, cheering runners along the way.

Out of a number of Truckee racers, Konny Garrett finished in five hours, three minutes and 50 seconds. Garrett had trained with her daughter, Lindsay Knez, for the past several months.

Garrett said her finish time was a “a lot better” than she had anticipated.

“It was a great experience,” she said, “even though I don’t think I’ll run another marathon.”
