Matt’s takes full court, Mt. Hardware wins 35 and Older

Matt’s Yard Maintenance edged Heavy Equipment Construction in overtime to capture first place in the Truckee-Donner Recreation and District’s Spring Full Court Basketball League and Mt. Hardware took top honors in the 35 and Older 3 On 3 League.

Matt’s Yard Maintenance ended the regular season with a 6-1 record.

Their only loss was to Heavy Equipment, which finished the regular season at 7-0.

Matt’s opened the playoffs by beating Lightning Lock and Key while Heavy Equipment beat Stone’s Tire in the other semifinal game.

The championship game was a back and forth affair, with neither team leading by more than four points the whole way.

Matt’s pulled away in overtime scoring six points to win 56-50. Matt Yarbrough led the winners with 19 points and Joe Murphy and Aaron Harris combined for 23. Shaun Stock led Heavy Equipment with 18 and Dustin Pugh had 10.

The Matt’s Yard Maintenance team is: Yarbrough, Murphy, Harris, Tyson Draeger, Bob Home, Mike Ginsberg and Shane Jones.

The 35 and Older 3 On 3 league came down to the last night with three team having a chance to win the league.

Mt. Hardware entered the last night at 18-6, while Stone’s Tire and the Long Shots were tied with 17-7 records. Stone’s edged the Long Shots 13-11 to earn the right to battle Mt. Hardware for the title.

Mt. Hardware then beat Stone’s two games to one to win the title.

The champion Mt. Hardware team is: Greg Hovorka, Frank Richey, Tim Mehan and Gary Schlenker.
