Neadeau, Lundbeck finish strong for TTHS
It was a disappointing end to a brilliant golf season as the Tahoe-Truckee High School golf team fell to Virgin Valley at the NIAA/U.S. Bank state championship in Dayton Valley Country Club last Thursday.
The Wolverines, who had been expected to win state after winning most of their tournaments this season, shot 394 strokes on the first day to take the early lead, but Virgin Valley rallied to shoot a tournament-low 388 the next day.
It brought the Southern Nevada team’s two-day total to 791, just seven strokes ahead of TTHS’s 798.
Still, individual Truckee golfers gave the rest of the field a run for their money, with Tony Neadeau combining a 75 and 78 for a two-day 153.
The rest of the Truckee field follows:
– Matt Lundbeck – 74, 80 for a 154
– Chris Gerdin – 83, 81 for a 164
– Mark Lundbeck -76, 85 for a 161
– Dustin Gilmore -86, 80 for a 166
– Jon Reedy -97, 97 for a 194
History repeats
This is the second year in a row that Truckee earned second place in the 3A state championship.
Last year, in a controversial tie-breaking call by the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association, the title also went to Virgin Valley, although both teams shot an 805.
Last year, Gerdin was the individual state champion, shooting a 77 on the first day and a 77 on the second, for a 154 total.
