Neadeau wins with 67 as team sets record

Staff Reports

It’s a newsworthy event when a high school golfer breaks 80 and a six-man team shoots under 400, so it’s huge that Tahoe-Truckee High School golfer Tony Neadeau shot a 67 and the team combined for a 373 at Whitehawk last Friday.

“I think that’s a Nevada record (the 373),” said TTHS coach Jeff Froelich.

Five Truckee golfers were among the top six at the meet, with the following results:

1. Neadeau – 30, 37 = 67

4. (tie) Mark Lundbeck -37, 38 = 75

4. (tie) Jon Reedy -38, 37 = 75

6. (tie) Matt Lundbeck -39, 39 = 78

6. (tie) Chris Gerdin – 40, 38 = 78

14. (tie) Dustin Gilmore -45, 39 = 84

The average score for Truckee golfers was 74.6.

Truckee’s 373 was 43 strokes ahead of Spring Creek’s 416.

North Tahoe followed with 420, Battle Mountain had 421 and Fernley shot a 463.

“Everybody’s game came together at the same time,” said Froelich.

The division match is tomorrow at Northstar (10 a.m.).

The state meet is next week in Dayton.

“Everybody’s feeling really good. We get confidence by playing,” said Froelich. “We know we can do it. The question is, ‘can we do it again?'”

Truckee was second in state last year after a controversial tie-breaker.
