NIAA: Soccer ref’s calls were fair

The NIAA Executive Director, Jerry A. Hughes, Ed.D., reviewed the tapes of the state championship soccer match between the Tahoe-Truckee Wolverines and the North Tahoe Lakers and, with the help of two neutral parties, determined that the officiating was not unfair.

“It was a very difficult game to call,” Hughes said. “Under the circumstances, I think the [referee] did a good job.”

Hughes explained that this was the first year that regional commissioners selected officials based on their performances, and that the method should eliminate any bias.

“We don’t have perfection in officiating,” Hughes said, “but we do the best we can.”

North Tahoe had five players red-carded during the game which Truckee won, 2-1.
