Nine Truckee football players named all-league

Nine players from the Truckee High football team earned Northern 3A all-league honors for their play during the 2006 season.

The awards were voted on by Northern 3A coaches.

Seniors Cory Hoehn, an offensive tackle, and Kirk Haynes, a defensive end, were voted to the all-league first team, as well as sophomore linebacker Ryan Macken.

Named to the second team at running back was junior Keven Sahlberg, who finished the regular season with 740 yards on 101 carries (7.3 yards per touch), ranking 17th among backs in Greater Nevada, according to statistics.

Senior Andrew Mazzini was selected to the second team as a receiver, as well as senior Forrest Krull at offensive guard, Paris Tenorio at linebacker and Kyler Coxson at safety.

Pablo Esquivel, a junior defensive back and kicker, received honorable mention recognition for the Wolverines, who compiled a 5-6 record with four of those losses decided by six points ” including a 26-20 overtime loss to Dayton in the first round of the playoffs.
