Nearly 100 Nordic skiers participated in the President’s Cup race at Auburn Ski Club on Monday.

The event featured several races, including a 10-kilometer race, a boys and girls 5K, and a 2K youth race.

Patrick Johnson captured the win in the 10K, posting a time of 19:42.6, while Spencer Eusden was runner-up in 20:00.1 and Wyatt Fereday was third in 21:04.4. Gus Johnson came in fourth and was followed by Evan Vomund, Peter Carroll, Peter Hanson, Jeff Schloss, Peter Mayfield and Holly Whitney, who was the top female racer.

Whitney, who finished with a time of 23:20.0, was trailed by Kara LaPoint, who was 11th overall in 23:39.7, and Caitlin Curran, who was 13th overall in 24:03.9. Mischel Twining was the fourth woman and 23rd overall, and Janelle Webb was the fifth woman and 25th overall.

Skyler Mullings took first in the boys 5K with a time of 10:32.1. Brandon Herhusky was second in 10:38.0 and Ryland Belisle was third in 10:52.1. Cameraon Small and JC Schoonmaker finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Hannah Halvorsen claimed the victory in the girls 5K, recording a time of 11:05.9, and Lizzie Larkins finished second in 11:44.6. Bria Riggs rounded out the top three in 11:55.4, while Tara Gallant was fourth and Danielle Nivinski fifth.

In the 2K youth race, Bjorn Halvorsen took the win a split second in front of Kianna Mullings. They posted times of 6:07.4 and 6:07.7, respectively. K.C. Larkins was third in 6:16.4 and was followed by Ella Kuzyk and Bodhi Kuzyk.

McElroy wins Winter Biathlon

Auburn Ski Club also hosted its Winter Biathlon on Sunday, featuring a pro race, a novice race and a youth race.

Jordan McElroy topped the 19-member pro field, missing only five shots along the way to post a winning time of 35:08.4. Peter Carrol was second with a time of 38:36.2, and Phillip Violett was third in 40:25.8. Sam Zabell was fourth and Dave Eastwood fifth.

Patrick Johnson placed first in the novice race with a time of 20:53.9. Buff Wendt was the top woman and second overall among the 38 competitors with a time of 25:52.3, and Megan McCandless was third overall and second among women in 26:02.7. Orion Maxwell was fourth and Paul Hoefer fifth.

In the youth race, William Peale took the win in 4:44.6 and was trailed by Hayden Halvorsen in 4:56.4 and Ryan Newberger in 5:18.8. Nina Seemann was fourth overall and first among female competitors in 5:44.0.

Local skiers make cut for Junior Nationals

A sizable group of Far West Nordic skiers qualified for Junior Nationals by posting qualifying times in three of seven events this season.

Each skier had to compete in four of the seven qualifying races, including both a classic and freestyle race.

The team and eight coaches will head to Stowe,Vt., from Feb. 28-March 9.

The following athletes made the cut:
