Nordic racing: Gelso leads American men at U23 Championships

PRAZ DE LYS SOMMAND, France Truckees Matt Gelso finished 19th to lead American men in the first race of the U23 Championships last week.Gelso, 20, sat in 27th after 5 kilometers and consistently moved up throughout the race, finishing 40 seconds out of the top-10 in the 15K, individual-start race. American Tad Elliot was just 3.7 seconds behind in 21st and Simi Hamilton took 28th.The mens 15K freestyle was won by Maurice Magnificat (FRA) by 31 seconds over Alexey Poltaranin (KAZ). Alexander Bessmertnykh (RUS) finished third.Gelso is a 2006 Truckee High grad and Far West Nordic ski member who attends and competes for the University of Colorado at Boulder.Results are available at the following link:http://www.fis-ski.com/uk/604/610.html?sector=CCandamp;raceid=15485
