North Tahoe baseball | Highlanders come from behind to edge Lakers
Basin rival Incline stormed back from a 10-run third-inning deficit to defeat the Lakers by a run, 17-16, in a Mount Rose League contest at Governorand#8217;s Field in Carson City on Wednesday.
and#8220;It was heart wrenching,and#8221; North Tahoe head coach Matt Carlson said of the loss.
Sophomore pitcher Colin Spencer started on the mound despite being ill. He threw 3 2/3 innings, recording five strikeouts, before being replaced by Brendon Nelson, who lasted 1 2/3 innings. Shane Christian and Wildon DesLauriers combined to finish the game.
Offensively, Nelson went 3 for 5 with two triples and four RBI to lead the Lakers. Christian was 2 for 6 with a double and an RBI, Spencer had a double and two RBI, DesLauriers had a hit and a stolen base, and Mychal Paschall was 1 for 3 with a sacrifice bunt and two RBI.
The Lakers fell to 0-7 in Mount Rose League play and 6-12-1 overall. Incline improved to 2-8 in league and 8-12 overall.
UP NEXT: North Tahoe and Incline square off again in a league doubleheader at Governorand#8217;s Field in Carson City on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Lakers will then take on Virginia City in a nonleague game at Aces Ballpark in Reno on Monday starting at 4 p.m.
