North Tahoe baseball | Lakers lose league game to Whittell
The North Tahoe baseball team lost the opener of its three-game Mount Rose League series against Whittell, 9-2, in Carson City on Wednesday.
The Lakers started with a bang, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a pair of hits and walks. But freshman starter Matt Elliott settled in quickly for the Warriors, as he gave up just two hits the rest of the way while striking out 11 in a complete-game effort.
The Warriors knotted the score at 2-all in the second inning, then forged ahead with a run in the fourth inning, four in the fifth and two in the seventh.
Sophomore hurler Colin Spencer started and threw six innings for the Lakers, giving up two hits and four walks while striking out five.
Junior Brendon Nelson led North Tahoe at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI. Brian Tidd was 1 for 4 with a double, and Alex Vogt led Whittell with three hits.
The Lakers fell to 1-9 in league and 8-14-1 overall with the loss, while Whittell improved to 3-5 in league and 15-9 overall.
UP NEXT: North Tahoe and Whittell are scheduled to meet again in a league doubleheader at Lampe Park in Gardnerville on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.

STATELINE, Nev. — The National Hockey League is leaving behind many memories from its time at Lake Tahoe, including a special gift that could be used for future games, just probably not future NHL events.
