Alex Tyler is not one to shy away from the big shot.

For the second time this season, the North Tahoe junior point guard lifted his Lakers to victory with a buzzer-beating shot, this time in a 61-59 win at Portola on Thursday.

The Lakers found themselves in need of a clutch bucket after carrying a 47-34 lead into the fourth quarter. The Tigers got back in the game with a 25-point fourth, which included the game-tying shot with 10 seconds remaining.

The Tigers celebrated their comeback prematurely, however, as only two players got back on defense after the tying shot, said North Tahoe coach Frank Wright.

The Lakers fired the inbound pass down the court to Tyler, who, according to Wright, shot about a 10-footer that stalled on the back of the rim for what seemed like an eternity before rolling in as the final buzzer sounded.

“He (Tyler) was as shocked as anyone,” Wright said, referring to Portola’s premature celebration. “They just got excited and forgot to play defense. I’m not sure what they were thinking.”

North Tahoe senior forward Colin Spencer led all scorers with 25 points, while Tyler finished with 22 points, Mitchell Myers had nine and Omar Vargas four.

Flint Fambrough and Ricky Lowdermilk scored 18 points apiece to lead the Tigers.

UP NEXT: North Tahoe will host Incline for its senior farewell on Saturday, girls at 2 p.m. and boys at 3:30. The Lakers then end the regular season at Sparks on Tuesday and at Truckee on Friday, Feb. 8.
