North Tahoe basketball: Boys go 3-1 in Whittell Invitational

The Lakers are scheduled to begin league play with home games against Battle Mountain (8-2) on Friday at 7 p.m. and West Wendover (7-3) on Saturday at 3 p.m.

The North Tahoe basketball team went 3-1 in the Whittell Invitational this past Friday and Saturday.

The Lakers opened the tournament with three consecutive wins, defeating Dayton 50-35 and Sierra Lutheran 58-38 on Friday, and Incline 50-49 on Saturday. The Lakers ended the tournament with a 79-32 loss to Division I North Valleys on Saturday.

Against Dayton, Andy Morgan led the way with a team-high 21 points, while Trent Lingruen added 16 points and Nick Joslin scored 12. Sophomore Teddy Gibeaut led North Tahoe’s offense with 15 points against Sierra Lutheran. Lingruen scored 12 points and Max Burkhardt had nine.

North Tahoe got off to a hot start against Division III league rival Incline on Saturday. The Lakers jumped out to a 12-4 lead by the end of the first quarter and extended the advantage to 30-15 by the half.

North Tahoe led by as many as 19 points in the third quarter before the Highlanders began to chip away. Incline outscored North Tahoe 14-10 in the third quarter and 20-10 in the fourth to cut the final margin to a single point.

Gibeaut and Burkhardt scored 12 points apiece for the Lakers, while Morgan had nine points and Lingruen eight. Joey Stranzl led Incline with 18 points, and Blake Perry added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

North Tahoe is now 4-5 overall on the season.
