North Tahoe basketball | Girls pay back Silver Stage at home
The North Tahoe girls’ basketball team avenged a previous loss at Silver Stage with a 49-32 win at home Saturday.
and#8220;We played well as a team, but still made silly mistakes,and#8221; said North Tahoe head coach Rick Buhler, whose Lakers improved to 3-5 with the win. and#8220;We are getting better with every game.and#8221;
North Tahoe senior forward Samantha Jeffers led all scorers with 15 points to go along with her 13 rebounds. Junior point guard Elizabeth Buhler had 10 points and nine seals and senior guard Irene Rojas added 10 points and a strong defensive effort for the Lakers.
The Laker boys, meanwhile, dropped a nonleague game 51-33 against Coleville this past Thursday.
North Tahoe led 12-7 after one quarter and 22-16 at the half. But Coleville came out firing in the second half, outscoring the Lakers 13-3 in the third quarter to take the lead and 22-8 in the fourth to pull away.
Raul Alonzo led the Lakers with eight points, while Mychal Paschall contributed seven points and Eduardo Rodriguez five. Colin Spencer and Ricardo Rangel each scored four points.
On Wednesday, Spencer scored 12 points to lead the way against visiting Portola, but it wasn’t enough as the Lakers fell 45-41 in a hard-fought game.
The North Tahoe boys are off to a 3-5 start to the season overall.
