North Tahoe basketball: Girls win at home, prepare to host Wednesday night

The Laker girls held off a late comeback from visiting Pyramid Lake for a 60-57 nonleague win on Tuesday.

North Tahoe senior Sydney Courcier led the Lakers with 22 points. Senior point guard Kelly Hester added 12 points, five assists and nine steals, and senior forward Shannon Stack finished with 11 points, 12 rebounds and five steals.

The Lakers (2-1 league, 7-7 overall) scored 23 points in the second quarter to take a commanding 30-19 lead into the break. North Tahoe ended the third quarter leading 48-32 before Pyramid Lake stormed back to outscore the Lakers 25-12 the final quarter.

North Tahoe had 22 steals in the game. Sara Estrada had three steals and Courcier two, while Yami Gutierrez, Irene Rojas and Monica Estrada each had one.

North Tahoe’s boys and girls teams will host nonleague games against Virginia City on Wednesday, with the girls scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.

The schools met on Dec. 30 at Virginia City, where both Laker teams won.

North Tahoe returns to league play on Saturday at Mineral County (Hawthorne). The Lakers host Greenville (Calif.) on Monday.
