North Tahoe football | Lakers drop season opener on the road

After a scoreless first quarter, West Wendover ran away with a 50-7 league win against visiting North Tahoe in both teamsand#8217; 2010 openers Friday.

and#8220;We just had too many turnovers and mental errors,and#8221; said North Tahoe coach Scott Everist. and#8220;We know what we need to work on, and conditioning physically will be a big part of that.and#8221;

North Tahoe junior Matt Grijalva scored the Lakersand#8217; touchdown in the second quarter, while three running backs did most of the offensive damage for the host Wolverines, who played in the Southern 2A until joining the Northern 2A this season.

Adan Chavez rushed for 112 yards on 15 carries and found the end zone three times for West Wendover. Matt Anzalone had 10 carries for 63 yards and two touchdowns, while Avery Arrien rushed for 72 yards on eight carries and had a score.

West Wendover scored 16 points in both the second and third quarters and 18 points in the fourth.
