North Tahoe football: Lakers run into tough Leopards team

The North Tahoe football team suffered a 52-0 loss in an 8-man game at Wells on Friday.

The Leopards came out on fire, scoring 38 points in the first quarter en route to the win.

Despite the loss, the Lakers gained 301 yards of total offense, with 216 of those coming through the air.

Freshman quarterback Thomas Mercogliano was 7-of-18 for 178 yards, with one interception, while junior receiver Brett Hurt caught six passes for 183 yards. Dalton Lamberth also threw three passes, completing one for 38 yards.

Freshman Kevin Perez led the ground game with 44 yards rushing, and Mercogliano added 40 yards. Perez also led the Lakers with nine tackles and was named Defensive Player of the Game.

Senior Jacob Buhler was North Tahoe’s Overall Player of the Game, Mercogliano was Offensive Player of the Game and Hurt was Special Teams Player of the Game.

The Lakers have two games remaining — Oct. 16 at Eureka and Oct. 24 at home against Whittell.
