North Tahoe girls basketball: Pershing County win sets up semifinal showdown with Lakers

Sun Staff reports

Pershing County (Lovelock) routed Silver Stage 63-35 on its home court Wednesday night to set up a Northern 2A semifinal showdown with second-seeded North Tahoe on Friday at 3 p.m.

The game will be held at North Valleys High School in Reno.

In the other Northern 2A girls quarterfinal held at Pershing County High School, fifth-seeded Whittell defeated fourth-seeded Battle Mountain 48-41 and will play Incline, the No. 1 seed, Friday at 6:20 p.m.

Semifinal winners play for the Northern 2A championship at Wooster High School on Saturday starting at noon. Both teams advance to the 2A State Championship in Las Vegas.

For the Lakers, today’s semifinal provides a shot at redemption after a lopsided postseason loss to Pershing County a year ago. North Tahoe defeated the Mustangs twice during the regular season, however, winning 47-31 at home on Jan. 2 and 46-43 at Pershing County on Jan. 24.

The Mustangs are seeded third in the regional tournament.
