North Tahoe girls’ soccer | Lakers thump Sparks on the road

The Lakers began Northern 3A Sierra League play with a 4-0 shutout win at Sparks on Thursday.

and#8220;I was very happy with how the girls played,and#8221; said North Tahoe head coach Jon Rockwood. and#8220;We controlled the tempo of the game and played up to our potential.and#8221;

North Tahoe senior Kelley Holman put the Lakers on the board just 7 minutes into the game when she lofted a direct kick into the upper corner of the net and out of the reach of the Sparks goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead.



Sammi Schulte then followed with a second goal assisted by Mago Olivares about 15 minutes into the first half, and Nicole Younger scored on a direct kick 10 minutes later to give the Lakers a 3-0 halftime lead.

After the break, Schulte recorded her second goal of the game assisted by Emily Pieper in the 50th minute.



Rockwood said the Laker girls played well throughout, with only a few lapses on defense.

and#8220;Kelsey Wittels, again, played a great game at sweeper,and#8221; the coach said. and#8220;Additionally, Tannyr Pasvantis had her best game of the season in goal. The girls applied many of the tactics worked on in practice and saw positive results form those efforts.

and#8220;We have a tough schedule coming up and we look to carry the momentum from the Sparks game to the rest of our season.
